The renovation of 19 Granite Mountain Hot Shots Cemetery in Prescott's Pioneer Cemetery will be completed in time for the 10th year anniversary of the death of the brave firefighters. The site is in need of some clean-up and care. Prescott Landscape Professionals and Horizon, a division of ProWater Irrigation, donated their labor and supplies to give this site an overdue makeover. The restoration included clean-up, releveling, and the installation of artificial grass.
Hugh Vallely, a liaison officer for the GMIHC Memorial Team, helped to coordinate the beatification of the sacred site. "It's hard to believe it's been ten years," stated Vallely. "The team wanted to make sure this place that honors the 19 was in great shape for the ceremony to pay tribute to them on June 30th. There are a lot of people who want to make this day special for honoring the 19 and their families. Prescott Landscape Professionals and Horizon a division of Pro Water Irrigation have donated their labor and supplies to give this site a great facelift. They are notable examples of outstanding people who care to give back!" Vallely said.
Josh Crothers, owner of Prescott Landscape Professionals said, "We are honored to donate our labor and supplies so that this site can be restored and serve as a reminder of those who made the ultimate sacrifice." The work will be completed before June 30th in preparation for a private family gathering at the cemetery.
There will be other activities in downtown Prescott on June 10th that the public is welcome to attend. Starting at 3 pm at the east side of Courthouse Plaza, an unveiling of a bronze statue in honor of the 19 Hot Shots. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs will be in attendance along with other dignitaries and Hot Shot family members.
The Hot Shots 19 Firefighters gave their lives to save the citizens of Arizona in 2013 and this renovation is a small but meaningful way to show appreciation for their service. The site will serve as a memorial for many years to come, ensuring that their spirit and courage lives on.
