About a year after breaking ground on a new 70-acre sports complex in Norwalk, part of it is now open to the public.

"Where cheers will be heard, hard-fought games will be played, lessons will be learned, friendships will be formed, and memories will be made," said Debi Durham, director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority in May 2022.

Facility enhancements will continue as planned over the next few months, working around the activities happening on the fields.

"Us being the anchor, the first thing that kinda starts this whole project of us getting open, starting to attract tournaments and teams coming from out of town," said Casey Scheidel, president of Iowa Sports Turf. "And that'll start everything from the gas stations and the hotels and restaurants that are gonna come here in the next year."

The $300 million development will eventually offer housing, shopping, dining, outdoor trails, parks and an amphitheater. A big investment for Norwalk's future.

"We're ready to open and to serve our people right now and there'll be more to come later," Scheidel said. "People are really blown away of what we got here."
